If you take Herbalism as well as Alchemy, you can save spending a lot of gold on herbs by collecting them yourself. This guide assumes you’ll gain a skill point for each craft you perform, but this is very unlikely – you may find you’ll have to buy a few extra to make that point up.

To start, you have to learn Alchemy from a trainer somewhere in either Darnassus, Stormwind or Ironforge (for Alliance). If you ask a guard, he’ll point you towards an Alchemy trainer. Head over there and learn Apprentice Alchemy.

Hang onto your potions – they’re ingredients for the next stage. At 60, you should head back to a trainer (you do remember where he was, don’t you?) and have him teach you Journeyman Alchemy.

And there you go! Beyond 435, there's not much point in levelling Alchemy, but you can easily do this by creating raiding flasks ([Flask of Endless Rage] and [Flask of the Frost Wyrm]) which sell well on the AH to top-end raiders.
