PUG-e-mon... gotta avoid them all!

Part two - Death Nabs

One Death Knight in a PUG usually makes me smell the sweet aroma of potential trouble, but when you get two... well, the opportunities for disaster rise exponentially.

So when I went along on a Violet Hold run and discovered both the tank and one of the DPS were Death Knights, both from the same guild on the same realm, I started wondering what I was in for.

But I didn't have to worry about it for long - both did the same amount of woeful damage (around 600-800DPS) compared to anybody else in the party. The pally healer could probably have facerolled Holy Shock and hit harder, frankly.

But I'm not a meter-Nazi and so I didn't say anything. VH is pretty easy, so who cares?

What troubled me was that they weren't competing as DPS. They were competing as tanks.

That became obvious when a portal opened on the left hand walkway and out rolled a blue dragonflight squad. Because we were waiting on the ground floor (waiting, I should say, for the tank to head up there), the squad split in two and came around each way to find us. Both DKs ran forward, one left, one right, and lay down their AoE. And death-gripped a mob each from the two half-squads. The remainder of the squad battered them, the other two DPS tried to kill the split mobs and the healer tried to divide his attention between the two. Predictably, the marked tank died. As did the DPS tank.

But what rankled, as I Feigned Death, watched the healer and warrior die and waited for it all to blow over, was their /p conversation lolling about who was the best tank.

Here's the answer... NEITHER OF YOU.

PUG-e-mon... gotta avoid them all!

Part one - the desperate tank

There are times as a healer you have to feel hard-done-by. So far, I've managed to avoid the PUG curse which deals you dps-specced tanks or Death Noobs, but last night I finally found out why everybody told me healing 5-mans would be a bad idea on my pally alt.

We hit Culling of Stratholme, which I usually enjoy as a dps (spam Volley, anyone?), and within seconds the tank asked whether we could do [Zombiefest]. Everybody else said no, forget it - it's best to do that with a group you know. I have the achievement on my hunter, so I knew how tough it could be in a random group (I managed it eventually in a guild run).

Not to be denied, he tried pulling all of the zombies at the start... which quickly led to trouble. No deaths, but he was told it wasn't possible there as you can't pull the 100 zombies needed. The entire party told him again not to do it, and he agreed - albeit relucatantly.

So when we reached the end of the secret passage strung out in a line and he took off pulling every mob possible, comments ranged from "suicide" to "stupid". He managed to hit 25% health in seconds, I couldn't heal him as he was out of range and Line of Sight, and needless to say he died.

Followed by the rest of the group.

I left without comment. It's not that he tried and failed. It's not that he stupidly and needlessly ranged and LoSed me. It's that he lied about trying for it.

Fast Mining levelling 1-450

Need to level your Mining profession up from 1 to 450? Just follow this guide. Mining is a gathering profession and a big earner – even Copper Ore goes for a decent amount because crafters don’t want to farm materials at low levels. The ore and metals serve three crafting professions: serves three professions: Blacksmithing, Engineering and Jewelcrafting, so if you have any of those as a secondary profession you could earn even more. And the fact all three are looking out for metals keeps prices fairly stable. There are all sorts of places to level by mining nodes – but this guide focuses on the best places with the most nodes.

What is essential if you want to level quickly is an addon which shows where the nodes are. Gatherer is good, personally I prefer Carbonite.

To start go to a trainer in any capital city in Azeroth – Darnassus, Ironforge, Stormwind or the Exodar. To find them, ask a guard. Once you reach the trainer, learn Apprentice Mining.

Skill level 1-65
[Copper Ore] - Dun Morogh, Elywnn Forest
When you have around 30 copper Ore, go and Smelt them and repeat the cycle, go mine ores then smelt them. Save the Copper Bars, you will need them.

Learn Mining Journeyman from a trainer.

Skill level 65-75
[Tin Ore], [Copper Ore] - Thousand Needles, Redridge Mountains
Tin can be a real pain to find – which is where your addon comes into play. You’ll find a lot of iron in the zones with Tin in, but you won’t be able to mine it yet.

Skill level 75-125

[Silver Ore] - Thousand Needles, Redridge Mountains
At 75, smelt the ores and use your Copper and Tin Bars to make Bronze Bars. At 75 you can learn how to smelt Silver Ore from a trainer. You can buy this from the Auction House and smelt it if you can afford it – or just mine Tin and Smelt Bronze until 125.

Learn Expert Mining from a trainer.

Skill level 125-175
[Iron Ore], [Tin Ore], [Gold Ore] - Arathi Highlands, Thousand Needles
At 155 learn to smelt Gold Ore from a trainer – if you can afford 30 and smelt them that will help you reach 175.
Skill level 175-245
[Mithril Ore], [Truesilver Ore] - The Hinterlands, Tanaris
At 230 head for a trainer learn to smelt Truesilver Ore to reach 225 quickly.
Skill level 245-300
[Thorium Ore] – Winterspring, Eastern Plaguelands
At 250, you’ll be able to learn to smelt Thorium Bars – you can only mine small Thorium Veins until you hit 275, which is a real bottleneck. If you can, buy the enchantment [Enchant Gloves – Advanced Mining] as it’ll get you through this much more quickly.

Next, head for Outland to learn Master Mining from a trainer.

Skill level 300-325
[Fel Iron Ore] - Hellfire Peninsula
Skill level 325-350
[Adamantite Ore] – Nagrand

You’ve exhausted Outland’s mining possibilities – time to go to Northrend, find a trainer and learn Grand Master Mining.

Skill level 350-400
[Cobalt Ore] - Borean Tundra
Skill level 400-450
[Saronite Ore] - Sholazar Basin

Congratulations - you're a maxed-out miner! Now learn to smelt Titanium and Titansteel bars: Titansteel has a 20-hour cooldown but makes a lot of profit because it's in such short supply.

Fast Leatherworking levelling 1-450

This Leatherworking powerlevelling guide will show you the fastest and cheapest way how to level your Leatherworking skill up from 1 to 450. Leatherworking is best combined with Skinning because you’ll pick up the materials you need as you go. You can buy the materials at the Auction House, but you’ll need a good supply of gold to do so.

What you’ll need: 57 Ruined Leather Scrap, 80 Coarse Thread, 40 Light Hide, 40 Salt, 230 Light Leather, 310 Medium Leather, 105 Fine Thread, 10 Gray Dye, 30 Heavy Hide, 305 Heavy Leather, 20 Bolt Of Silk Cloth, 385 Thick Leather, 150 Silken Thread, 455 Rugged Leather, 40 Black Dye, 40 Rune Thread, 100 Knothide Leather Scraps, 518 Knothide Leather, 28 Fel Scale, 1908 Borean Leather, 13 Jormungar Scale, 10 Arctic Fur, 10 Nerubian Chitin or 10 Icy Dragonscale, 5 Frozen Orb

First, visit any trainer in the capital cities of Azeroth (Darnassus, Ironforge, Stormwind) and learn Apprentice Leatherworking. If you can’t find a trainer, just ask a guard, and they’ll give you directions and mark it on your map.

Skill level 1-20
19 x [Light Leather] - 57 Ruined Leather Scraps

Skill level 20-30
10 x [Light Armor Kit] - 10 Light Leather
If you can’t find any Ruined Leather Scraps, you can make these from the very start.

Skill level 30-35
5 x [Handstitched Leather Cloak] - 10 Light Leather, 5 Coarse Thread

Skill level 35-65
40 x [Cured Light Hide] - 40 Light Hide, 40 Salt
Hang onto these as you’ll need them to make other items later.

Next, head back to your trainer and learn Journeyman Leatherworking.

Skill level 65-85
20 x [Embossed Leather Gloves] - 60 Light Leather, 40 Coarse Thread

Skill level 85-110
25 x [Fine Leather Belt] - 150 Light Leather, 50 Coarse Thread

Skill level 125-135

Skill level 135-145
10 x [Toughened Leather Armor] - 100 Medium Leather, 20 Cured Light Hides, 20 Fine Thread

Skill level 145-150
5 x [Hillman's Leather Gloves] - 70 Medium Leather, 20 Fine Thread

Skill level 150-165
30 x [Cured Heavy Hide] - 30 Heavy Hide
Again, you’ll need these later to make other items with, so don’t get rid of them! You may find you’ll level all the way to 170 with these, so you might be able to skip the next part.

Skill level 165-170
5 x [Heavy Armor Kit] - 25 Heavy Leather

Skill level 170-180
10 x [Guardian Pants] - 120 Heavy Leather, 20 Bolts of Silk Cloth

Skill level 180-190
10 x [Barbaric Shoulders] - 80 Heavy Leather, 10 Cured Heavy Hide

Skill level 190-210
20 x [Guardian Gloves] - 80 Heavy Leather, 20 Cured Heavy Hide, 20 Silken Thread

More training, this time you’ll need to learn Artisan Leatherworking.

Skill level 210-235
35 x [Nightscape Headband] - 175 Thick Leather, 70 Silken Thread

When you hit 225 skill and get to level 40, you’ll be able to do a series of quests which will allow you to specialise in various types of armour. Unfortunately, only you can use these – they can’t be sold or traded. Elemental Leatherworking focuses on melee leather items which grant extra agility and attack power. Dragonscale Leatherworking produces mail items for both casters and melee. Tribal Leatherworking items are healing-focused leather pieces.

Skill level 235-250
15 x [Nightscape Pants] - 210 Thick Leather, 60 Silken Thread

Skill level 250-260
15 x [Rugged Armor Kit] - 75 Rugged Leather

Skill level 260-275
15 x [Wicked Leather Gauntlets] - 120 Rugged Leather, 15 Black Dye, 15 Rune Thread
Buy the pattern for this from this NPC
If you can buy Heavy Scorpid Scale at the Auction House cheaper than Rugged Leather, you could make:
15 x [Heavy Scorpid Bracers] - 60 Rugged Leather, 60 Heavy Scorpid Scale, 15 Rune Thread
Buy the pattern here

You’ve now done all Azeroth can offer Leatherworkers: go to Outland and learn Master Leatherworking from a trainer.

Skill level 275-285
10 x [Wicked Leather Bracers] - 80 Rugged Leather, 10 Black Dye, 10 Rune Thread
If Essence of Water is cheap on the Auction House, you could make [Frostsaber Boots] instead.
Skill level 285-300
15 x [Wicked Leather Headband] - 180 Rugged Leather, 15 Black Dye, 15 Rune Thread

Skill level 300-310
20 x [Knothide Leather] - 100 Knothide Leather Scraps

Skill level 310-325
25 x [Knothide Armor Kit] - 100 Knothide Leather

Skill level 340-350
10 x [Scaled Draenic Boots] - 168 Knothide Leather, 28 Fel Scales, 42 Rune Thread
You’ll probably need more than 10 of these as the skill turns yellow at 345.

At this point, it’s time to leave Outland and head to Northrend to learn Grand Master Leatherworking from a trainer.

Skill level 350-380
33 x [Borean Armor Kit] - 132 Borean Leather

Skill level 380-385
5 x [Arctic Gloves] - 40 Borean Leather

Skill level 385-390
5 x [Iceborne Shoulderpads] - 50 Borean Leather

Skill level 420-425
5 x [Overcast Bracers] - 40 Heavy Borean Leather, 5 Eternal Water

Skill level 425-435

[Icescale Leg Armor] - 10 Arctic Fur, 10 Icy Dragonscale, 5 Frozen Orb

Skill level 440+
Past here, there’s little point in levelling, but you could keep on making the high-end recipes as you’ll sell them at the Auction House. Either way – congratulations, you’ve maxed your leatherworking!

Fast Jewelcrafting levelling 1-450

Jewelcrafting isn't the cheapest option if you want to powerlevel a profession - but by cutting gems and making jewellery at higher levels, you'll be raking the cash in.

If you're going to be a jewelcrafter, consider the advantages of taking Mining as a second profession - all the ore for you to prospect or make items with. Enchanting is also a good option if you don't want to take a gathering profession as you'll be able to disenchant much of what you'll create and sell the materials on the Auction House.

What you'll need:
100 Copper Bar, 20 Tigerseye or 20 Malachite, 120 Bronze Bar (60 Copper Bar and 60 Tin Bar), 60 Shadowgem or 20 Shadowgem and 20 Small Lustrous Pearl, 80 Heavy Stone, 30 Moss Gate, 180 Mithril Bar, 25 Citrine, 20 Truesilver Bar, 5 Aquamarine, 60 Thorium Bar, 15 Star Ruby, 20 Large Opal, 10 Powerful Mojo or 10 Blue Sapphire, 10 Essence of Earth or 10 Essence of Undeath, 20 Huge Emerald, 60 green gems, 5 Adamantite Bar, 5 Mercurial Adamantite, 60 of either Bloodstone/Chalcedony/Dark Jade/Huge Citrine/Shadow Crystal/Sun Crystal, 5 Bloodstone, 46 Eternal Earth or 23 Eternal Earth and 23 Eternal Shadow, 7 Forest Emerald, 15 Skyflare Diamond or 15 Earthsiege Diamond

First, visit a trainer in one of the capital cities of Azeroth (Darnassus, Ironforge or Stormwind) - just ask a guard where they are if you don't already know - and learn Apprentice Jewelcrafting.
Skill level 1-30
30 x [Delicate Copper Wire] - 60 Copper Bar
Delicate Copper wire is needed for creating other items later on, so hang onto them.

Skill level 30-50
20 x [Tigerseye Band] - 20 Tigerseye, 20 Delicate Copper Wire

Visit your trainer again and learn Journeyman Jewelcrafting.

Skill level 50-80
50 x [Bronze Setting] - 100 Bronze Bar
Again, you'll need these settings in order to make other items, so don't sell them!

Skill level 80-100
20 x [Simple Pearl Ring] - 20 Small Lustrous Pearl, 20 Bronze Setting, 40 Copper Bar
20 x [Gloom Band] - 20 Bronze Setting, 40 Shadowgem, 40 Delicate Copper Wire
If silver bars are cheap at the Auction House on your server or you already have some, you can make [Ring of Silver Might] instead.

Skill level 100-110
10 x [Ring of Twilight Shadows] - 20 Shadowgem, 20 Bronze Bar

Skill level 110-120
10 x [Heavy Stone Statue] - 80 Heavy Stone

Skill level 120-150
30 x [Pendant of the Agate Shield] - 30 Moss Gate, 30 Bronze Settings
This design is sold by Neal Allen in the keep at Menethil Harbour.
Learn Expert Jewelcrafting from the trainer.

Skill level 150-180
65 x [Mithril Filigree] - 130 Mithril Bar
Again, you'll need these items to make other things with, so keep them.

Skill level 180-200
20 x [Engraved Truesilver Ring] - 20 Truesilver Bar, 50 Mithril Filigree

Back to the trainer - it's time to learn Artisan Jewelcrafting.

Skill level 200-220
25 x [Citrine Ring of Rapid Healing] - 25 Citrine, 50 Mithril Bar

Skill level 220-225
5 x [Aquamarine Pendant of the Warrior] - 5 Aquamarine, 15 Mithril Filigree

Skill level 225-245
60 x [Thorium Setting] - 60 Thorium Bar

Skill level 245-260
15 x [Ruby Pendant of Fire] - 15 Star Ruby, 15 Thorium Setting

Skill level 260-280
20 x [Simple Opal Ring] - 20 Large Opal, 20 Thorium Setting

Skill level 280-290
There's a choice here:
10 x [Onslaught Ring] - 10 Powerful Mojo, 10 Essence of Earth, 10 Thorium Setting
10 x [Sapphire Pendant of Winter Night] - 10 Blue Sapphire, 10 Essence of Undeath, 10 Thorium Setting

Skill level 290-300
10 x [Emerald Lion Ring] - 20 Huge Emerald, 10 Thorium Setting

With your skill level at 300, you'll need to travel to Outland in order to learn Master Jewelcrafting from the trainer. Once you hit 300, jewelcrating is like no other profession in that you'll have hit a bottleck. Pretty much all of your crafting recipes will be yellow and so you have to rely a little bit on luck to make it through to 320. Sometimes you'll get the skill point firt time - but it could take a few attempts and so the materials you'll need may vary. In order to follow this part of the guide, just keep making the suggested gems until you hit the required level to move on.

Skill level 300-320

Skill level 320-325
[Bold Blood Garnet]

Skill level 325-335

Skill level 335-340

Next head for Hellfire Peninsula to find Tatiana to buy:

Skill level 340 - 350
10 x [Heavy Adamantite Ring] - 1 Adamantite Bar, 1 Mercirual Adamantite

When you hit 350, you can head for Northrend and learn Grandmaster Jewelcrafting from a trainer there.

Skill level 350 - 395

Skill level 395 - 400
Craft any 5 of the following:
[Bloodstone Band] - 5 Bloodstone, 10 Cristallyzed Earth
[Crystal Chalcedony Amulet] - 5 Chalcedony, 10 Cristallyzed Earth
[Crystal Citrine Necklace] - 5 Huge Citrine, 10 Cristallyzed Earth
[Sun Rock Ring] - 5 Sun Crystal, 10 Cristallyzed Earth

Skill level 400 - 420
You have a choice here:
23 x [Stoneguard Band] - 46 Eternal Earth
23 x [Shadowmight Ring] - 23 Eternal Earth, 23 Eternal Shadow

Skill level 420 - 425
Again, there's another bottleneck here - unless you want to start cutting meta gems (which can be very pricey) you have to keep making green-rated gems. You're not going to level up very quickly doing that, but on most servers at least Forest Emeralds are usually reasonably cheap compared to other gems.
7 x [Dazzling Forest Emerald] - 7 Forest Emerald

Skill level 425 - 440
At this point, you'll need to make meta gems. Choose any 15 you like that can be made out of [Skyflare Diamond] or [Earthsiege Diamond]. You can find the designs from a trainer, from Tiffany Cartier in Dalaran, from bosses and mobs around Northrend or on the Auction House. There's no easy way of doing it I'm afraid. Not only that, but once you've hit 440 skill, there's no point in taking it all the way to 450. You won't learn anything new and it'll cost you cash unnecessarily. But who am I to stand in your way? Feel free to ding the magic 450 if you really want to!

15 Jan 2010

Fast Cooking levelling 1-450

If you want to level cooking up to its maximum level, the best way to do it is to keep using it while you level to 80. Few people do, however, and the fact that level 80 toons can spend a fortune in the Auction House buying materials means many people choose to sell their cooking mats at a good price, preferring gold to skills. This guide will point you in the direction of hitting 450 with your cooking skill as quickly as possible, and assumes you're of a high enough level to travel and collect mats, do quests and grind mobs freely.

Although most recipes are bought from vendors, in many cases you'll have to travel to different continents to buy recipes and farm materials. There's just no easier way, trust me!

If there's one piece of advice it's this: buy all of the vendor ingredients before you start - nothing's more annoying than having meat or eggs, being out in the wild and having to hearthstone back to a city to buy 1s worth of spices! And don't forget you'll need a [Flint and Tinder] too - you'll need one to create a [Basic Campfire] to cook on.

First, visit any trainer in Darnassus, Ironforge or Stormwind - if you can't find one, ask a guard - and learn Apprentice Cooking.

1 - 40
60 x [Spice Bread] - 60 [Simple Flour], 60 Mild Spices

40 x [Smoked Bear Meat] - 40 [Bear Meat]

Next step is to head back to the trainer and learn Journeyman Cooking.

80 - 130
[Boiled Clams] - 1 Clam Meat, 1 Refreshing Spring Water
[Crab Cake] - 1 Crawler Meat, 1 Mild Spices
If you're grinding crawlers for their meat, you'll find they also drop Crawler Claws - you can use these to make:
[Cooked Crab Claw] - 1 Crawler Claw, 1 Mild Spices

At this point, head back to the trainer and learn Expert Cooking.

130 - 175
50 x [Curiously Tasty Omelet] - 50 [Raptor Egg], 50 Hot Spices
Again there's a handy grinding tip here - Raptors drop [Raptor Flesh] too, which you can use for the the next recipe.

175 - 225
50 x [Roast Raptor] - 50 [Raptor Flesh]

Head back to the city again and have the trainer teach you Artisan Cooking.

225 - 250
25 x [Monster Omelet] - 25 Giant Egg, 50 Soothing Spices

250 - 285
40 x [Juicy Bear Burger] - 40 [Bear Flank]

285 - 300
In order to complete the next step, there's a straightforward two-stage quest for the recipe:
1. Desert Recipe
2. Sharing the Knowledge
15 x [Smoked Desert Dumplings] - 15 [Sandworm Meat], 15 Shoothing Spices

Once you're completed this step, you can go to Outland to learn Cooking Master from a trainer.

300 - 325
30 x [Ravager Dog] - 30 [Ravager Flesh]
30 x [Buzzard Bites] - 30 [Buzzard Meat]
Again, there's a short quest chain here for you to get the recipe for Buzzard Bites:
1. Ravager Egg Roundup
2. Helboar, the Other White Meat
3. Smooth as Butter

325 - 350
At this point, you have a selection of recipes you can cook to get you up to 350 skill. Of the three, Warp Burgers sell better at the Auction House because they're a better buff food. But of course the Warped Flesh you'll need to cook them is harder to grind out.
35 x [Talbuk Steak] - 35 [Talbuk Venison ]
35 x [Roasted Clefthoof] - 35 [Clefthoof Meat]
35 x [Warp Burger] - 35 [Warped Flesh]

You're ready now to head to Northrend where you can learn Cooking Grand Master from a trainer.

350 - 365
There's another quest here - Northern Cooking - which is fairly easy to complete. As a reward, you'll learn the recipe [Northern Stew]
20 x [Northern Stew] - 20 Chilled Meat

365 - 400
At this point, be prepared to spend a while gaining skill points. Your trainer has plenty of recipes but they'll go green well before 400. Just keep churning them out until you hit the 400 level. The good news is that most are buff foods - one of the best is Rhino Dogs, which provide mana for casters.
50 x [Rhino Dogs] - 50 [Rhino Meat]
400 - 425
From now on, you have to earn [Dalaran Cooking Awards] to buy recipes. These are rewards from the daily cooking quests given by Katherine Lee. All of them are reasonably straightforward - you won't even need to enter combat if you have plenty of Rhino Meat and Chilled Meat. The other rewards from those quests are [Northern Spices], which you'll also need. If you need more than you have, the good news is that the price in the Auction House had plunged as more and more people earn them and choose to sell them, so buying them isn't out of the question.

Cook whichever recipe gives you the best buff for your class, or whichever seems to sell best at the Auction House. The recipes are sold by Derek Odds.

425 - 450
[Gigantic Feast]
[Small Feast]

Both recipes are sold by Derek Odds.

And that's it - you're a grandmaster cook! Congratulations - now keep going at the daily cooking quests because you can spend those [Dalaran Cooking Awards] on a [Chef's Hat], which speeds up production when you're cooking.

Fast Blacksmithing levelling 1-450

So you want to be a Blacksmith? This profession is most suited for people who also have Mining – and Blacksmithing will cost you a lot to level if you have to buy all of the metal from the Auction House, so it’s a good idea to have a miner to supply you with the materials you’ll need.
Blacksmithing can pay for itself as you approach the highest levels because you can sell the armour and weapons you create on the Auction House. High-end crafted epics are often in demand by non-raiding players.

What you’ll need:
133 Rough Stone, 190 Copper Bar, 24 Coarse Stone, 5 Silver Bar, 120 Bronze Bar, 150 Heavy Stone, 5 Gold Bar, 230 Iron Bar, 35 Green Dye, 50 Steel Bar, 5 Truesilver Bar, 60 Solid Stone, 150 Mageweave Cloth, 320 Mithril Bar, 20 Dense Stone, 490 Thorium Bar, 80 Rugged Leather or 10 Star Ruby, 155 Fel Iron Bar, 10 Netherweave Cloth, 70 Adamantite Bar, 320 Cobalt Bar, 501 Saronite Bar, 7 Titanium Bar, 33 Eternal Earth, 13 Eternal Shadow, 13 Eternal Water

To begin, you’ll need to learn Apprentice Blacksmithing from a trainer in one of the capital cities – Ironforge, Darnassus or Stormwind. If you have trouble finding a trainer, ask a guard and they’ll point you in the right direction.

Skill level 1 - 30
33 x [Rough Sharpening Stones] - 33 Rough Stone
Skill level 30 - 65
50 x [Rough Grinding Stone] - 100 Rough Stone
Note you’ll need 10 of these later on, so hang onto them or pop them in the bank for when you need them.
Skill level 65 - 75
10 x [Copper Chain Belt] - 60 Copper Bar

Head back to a trainer to learn Journeyman Blacksmithing.

Skill level 75 - 87
12 x [Coarse Grinding Stone] - 24 Coarse Stones
Again, you’ll need these to create other items later on, so hang onto them.
Skill level 87 - 100
13 x [Runed Copper Belt] - 130 Copper Bar
Skill level 100 - 105
5 x [Silver Rod] - 5 Silver Bar, 10 Rough Grinding Stone
Skill level 105 - 125
20 x [Rough Bronze Leggings] - 120 Bronze Bar

Learn Expert Blacksmithing from the trainer.

Skill level 125 - 150
50 x [Heavy Grinding Stone] - 150 Heavy Stone
You’ll need these grinding stones later, so keep going even if the skill turns green and you stop skilling up. They will be important for other crafts later.
Skill level 150 - 155
5 x [Golden Rod] - 5 Gold Bar, 10 Coarse Grinding Stone
Skill level 155 - 165
10 x [Green Iron Leggings] - 80 Iron Bar, 10 Heavy Grinding Stone, 10 Green Dye
Skill level 165 - 190
25 x [Green Iron Bracers] - 150 Iron Bar, 25 Green Dye
Skill level 190 - 200
10 x [Golden Scale Bracers] - 50 Steel Bar, 20 Heavy Grinding Stone

Go back to a trainer and learn Artisan Blacksmithing.

Skill level 200 - 205
5 x [Truesilver Rod] - 5 TrueSilver Bar, 5 Heavy Grinding Stone

When you hit level 40 and have a Blacksmithing skill of at least 200, you can specialize as either an Armorsmith or a Weaponsmith. If you choose Weaponsmith, later on you can further hone your skills in maces, axes or swords.

Skill level 205 - 210
15 x [Solid Grinding Stone] - 60 Solid Stone
Again, these grinding stones will be important for other crafting later on, so save them.
Skill level 210 - 225
15 x [Heavy Mithril Gauntlet] - 90 Mithril Bar, 60 Mageweave Cloth
Skill level 225 - 235
10 x [Mithril Scale Bracers] - 80 Mithril Bar
You need to go see Harggan in the Hinterlands (13.4,44.0) for this recipe. He can only sell one every half an hour so if someone bought it before you, you’ll have to wait around a bit.
Skill level 235 - 250
There’s a choice here, as the easiest way to level is to make mithril spurs – but you’ll need to check the auction House for the plans. If they’re there, and going relatively cheap, then buy them and make them until you hit 225. Otherwise, stick with:
15 x [Mithril Coif] - 150 Mithril Bar, 90 Mageweave Cloth
Skill level 250 - 260
20 x [Dense Sharpening Stone] - 20 Dense Stone
Skill level 260 - 275
15 x [Thorium Bracers] - 120 Thorium Bar

Next it’s time to head to Outland, where you’ll need to learn Master Blacksmithing from a trainer.

Skill level 275 - 290
20 x [Imperial Plate Bracers] - 240 Thorium Bar
To get this recipe, go see Derotain Mudsipper in Gadgetzan (51.4,28.7). He gives a quest asking for 10 Thorium bars. Buy them (or mine them), turn them in and then use these plans.
Skill level 290 - 300
There’s a choice of crafts here. Both need 12 Thorium Bars – but the helm needs 1 Star Ruby and the boots need 8 Rugged Leather. See which one is cheapest and buy enough to make one of the following:
10 x [Thorium Boots] - 120 Thorium Bar, 80 Rugged Leather
10 x [Thorium Helm] - 120 Thorium Bar, 10 Star Ruby
Skill level 300 - 305
10 x [Fel Weightstone] - 10 Fel Iron Bar, 10 Netherweave Cloth
Skill level 305 - 315
10 x [Fel Iron Plate Belt] - 40 Fel Iron Bar
Skill level 315 - 320
5 x [Fel Iron Chain Gloves] - 25 Fel Iron Bar
Skill level 320 - 325
5 x [Fel Iron Plate Boots] - 30 Fel Iron Bar
Skill level 325 - 330
10 x [Lesser Rune of Warding] - 10 Adamantite Bar
Skill level 330 - 335
5 x [Fel Iron Breastplate] - 50 Fel Iron Bar
Skill level 335 – 340
Go see Aaron Hollman in Shattrath City (63.1,71.1) to buy these next plans.
5 x [Adamantite Cleaver] - 40 Adamantite Bar
Skill level 340 - 350
Off to another vendor, this time in Shadowmoon Valley. Mari Stonehand (36.8,55.1) will sell these plans to you.
20 x [Lesser Ward of Shielding] - 20 Adamantite Bar

Next, having done with Outland, it’s time for you to head to Northrend and learn Grand Master Blacksmithing from the trainer in Valgarde or Valiance Keep.

Skill level 350 - 360
10 x [Cobalt Belt] - 40 Cobalt Bar
Skill level 360 - 370
10 x [Cobalt Bracers] - 40 Cobalt Bar
Skill level 370 - 375
5 x [Cobalt Helm] - 25 Cobalt Bar
Skill level 375 - 380
5 x [Cobalt Gauntlets] - 25 Cobalt Bar
Skill level 380 - 385
5 x [Spiked Cobalt Boots] - 35 Cobalt Bar
Skill level 385 - 390
5 x [Sure-fire Shuriken] - 35 Cobalt Bar
Skill level 390 - 395
5 x [Notched Cobalt War Axe] - 50 Cobalt Bar
Skill level 395 - 400
5 x [Brilliant Saronite Belt] - 30 Cobalt Bar, 25 Saronite Bar
Skill level 400 - 405
5 x [Horned Cobalt Helm] - 40 Cobalt Bar
Skill level 405 - 410
5 x [Brilliant Saronite Boots] - 60 Saronite Bar
Skill level 410 - 415
5 x [Tempered Saronite Bracers] - 70 Saronite Bar

From here on in, you should be able to sell just about all of these crafted items on the Auction House for decent amounts of cash.

Skill level 415 - 425
13 x [Eternal Belt Buckle] - 52 Saronite Bar, 13 Eternal Earth, 13 Eternal Shadow, 13 Eternal Water

Welcome to the money - Eternal Belt Buckles are the only belt enchantments in the game. Everybody will have one of these, the demand never falls. These'll be bread and butter to a mining blacksmith.

Skill level 425 - 430
7 x [Titanium Weapon Chain] - 14 Saronite Bar, 7 Titanium Bar
Skill level 430 - 435
5 x [Savage Saronite Hauberk] - 70 Saronite Bar, 5 Eternal Earth
Skill level 435 - 445
15 x [Daunting Legplates] - 210 Saronite Bar, 15 Eternal Earth

Beyond 445, without raiding, it’s difficult to get plans to level the last five points. On the upside, you can keep making easy items and selling them – or alternatively advertise on the trade chat channel to craft for other players with their materials. It won’t take long before you have 450 Blacksmithing – congratulations!

Fast Alchemy levelling 1-450

Need to get from 1-450 Alchemy as quickly as possible? Here we go!
If you take Herbalism as well as Alchemy, you can save spending a lot of gold on herbs by collecting them yourself. This guide assumes you’ll gain a skill point for each craft you perform, but this is very unlikely – you may find you’ll have to buy a few extra to make that point up.

What you’ll need:
59 x Peacebloom, 59 x Silverleaf, 80 x Briarthorn, 30 x Bruiseweed, 15 x Mageroyal, 40 x Stranglekelp, 30 x Liferoot, 30 x Kingsblood, 45 x Goldthorn, 5 x Wild Steelbloom, 70 x Sungrass, 15 x Khadgar's Whisker, 4 x Iron Bar, 1 Black Vitriol, 4 x Purple Lotus, 4 x Firebloom, 19 x Arthas' Tears, 40 x Blindweed, 75 x Golden Sansam, 40 x Mountain Silversage, 38 x Felweed, 20 x Ragveil, 101 x Dreaming Glory, 10 x Netherbloom, 40 x Nightmare Vine, 20 x Talandra's Rose, 70 x Goldclover, 41 x Tiger Lily, 24 x Adder's Tongue, 10 x Icethorn, 40 x Lichbloom, 10 x Dark Jade, 10 x Huge Citrine, 10 x Eternal Fire, 74 x Empty Vial, 65 x Leaded Vial, 99 x Crystal Vial, 170 x Imbued Vial

To start, you have to learn Alchemy from a trainer somewhere in either Darnassus, Stormwind or Ironforge (for Alliance). If you ask a guard, he’ll point you towards an Alchemy trainer. Head over there and learn Apprentice Alchemy.

Skill level 1-60
59 x [Minor Healing Potion] - 59 Peacebloom, 59 Sliverleaf, 59 Empty Vial
Hang onto your potions – they’re ingredients for the next stage. At 60, you should head back to a trainer (you do remember where he was, don’t you?) and have him teach you Journeyman Alchemy.
Skill level 60 - 110
50 x [Lesser Healing Potion] - 50 Minor Healing Potion, 50 Briarthorn
Skill level 110 - 140
30 x [Healing Potion] - 30 Bruiseweed, 30 Briarthorn, 30 Leaded Vial

Next, you’ll need to head back to the Alchemy trainer again and learn Expert Alchemy.
Skill level 140 - 155
15 x [Lesser Mana Potion] - 15 Mageroyal, 15 Stranglekelp, 15 Empty Vial
Skill level 155 - 185
30 x [Greater Healing Potion] - 30 Liferoot, 30 Kingsblood, 30 Leaded Vial
Skill level 185 - 210
25 x [Elixir of Agility] - 25 Stranglekelp, 25 Goldthorn, 25 Leaded Vial

At this point, it’s time to head back to your trainer so you can learn Artisan Alchemy.
Skill level 210 - 215
5 x [Elixir of Greater Defense] - 5 Steelbloom, 5 Goldthorn, 5 Leaded Vial
Skill level 215 - 230
15 x [Superior Healing Potion] - 15 Sungrass, 15 Khadgar's Whisker, 15 Crystal Vial
Skill level 230 - 231
1 x [Philosopher's Stone] - 4 Iron Bar, 1 Black Vitriol, 4 Purple Lotus, 4 Firebloom
Your philosopher’s stone will come in handy for transmutations later – make sure you hang onto it!
Skill level 231 - 250
19 x [Elixir of Detect Undead] - 19 Arthas' Tears, 19 Crystal Vial
Skill level 250 - 265
15 x [Elixir of Greater Agility] - 15 Sungrass, 15 Goldthorn, 15 Crystal Vial
Skill level 265 - 285
20 x [Superior Mana Potion] - 40 Sungrass, 40 Blindweed, 20 Crystal Vial

Next it’s time to head for Outland. There, you can reach Master level of Alchemy by talking to Alchemist Gribble at Honor Hold.
Skill level 285 - 300
20 x [Major Healing Potion] - 40 Golden Sansam, 20 Mountain Silversage, 20 Crystal vial
Skill level 300-310
10 x [Volatile Healing Potion] - 10 Golden Sansam, 10 Felweed, 10 Imbued Vial
Skill level 310-325
15 x [Elixir of Healing Power] - 15 Golden Sansam, 15 Dreaming Glory, 15 Imbued Vial
At this point, you need to be at least level 68 to take a quest which will let you learn one of three specializations: Potions, Elixirs and Transmutations.
Skill level 325-335
10 x [Mad Alchemist's Potion] - 20 Ragveil, 10 Crystal Vial
Skill level 335-340
5 x [Super Healing Potion] - 10 Netherbloom, 5 Felweed, 5 Imbued Vial
Skill level 340-360
23 x [Super Mana Potion] - 46 Dreaming Glory, 23 Felweed, 23 Imbued Vial

Having been through all the Alchemy that Outland can teach you, it’s time to go to Northrend and learn Grand Master Alchemy. There are trainers in Valgarde, Valiance Keep and Dalaran.
Skill level 360 - 365
5 x [Icy Mana Potion] - 10 Talandra's Rose, 5 Imbued Vial
Skill level 365 - 380
17 x [Spellpower Elixir] - 17 Goldclover, 17 Tiger Lily, 17 Imbued Vial
Skill level 380 - 385
5 x [Potion of Nightmares] - 5 Goldclover, 10 Talandra's Rose, 5 Imbued Vial
Skill level 385 - 395
12 x [Elixir of Mighty Strength] - 24 Tiger Lily, 12 Imbued Vial
Skill level 395 - 405
When you reach 400, Northrend Alchemy Research and your Alchemy Trinket will mean you don’t need to make as many potions.
12 x [Elixir of Mighty Agility] - 24 Goldcover, 24 Adder's Tongue, 12 Imbued Vial
Skill level 405 - 410
5 x [Runic Healing Potion] - 5 Goldcover, 10 Icethorn, 5 Imbued Vial
Skill level 410 - 425
This recipe turns green at 422, so you might need to make more than 20.
20 x [Runic Mana Potion] - 20 Goldcover, 40 Lichbloom, 15 Imbued Vial
Skill level 425 - 435
10 x [Transmute: Earthsiege Diamond] - 10 Dark Jade, 10 Huge Citrine, 10 Eternal Fire

And there you go! Beyond 435, there's not much point in levelling Alchemy, but you can easily do this by creating raiding flasks ([Flask of Endless Rage] and [Flask of the Frost Wyrm]) which sell well on the AH to top-end raiders.

Fast Enchantment levelling 1-450

This guide shows you how to level your enchanting profession right up to maximum level, only using recipes you can buy from trainers and vendors. There are other recipes you can use, which general drop throughout the world and can be bought at the Auction House, but they’re usually pretty expensive – and enchanting isn’t the cheapest profession to powerlevel anyway.

You’ll find it difficult to sell enchantments until you hit level 350 anyway – but you might be able to sell scrolls you enchant and recoup some of the cost that way. Don’t be too surprised if the scrolls end up selling for less than you paid for the materials.

Enchanting is a good partner profession for Tailoring because you can disenchant most of the cloth items you make and use the materials for more enchantments, although the same's true of blacksmithing, leatherworking and even jewelcrafting at lower levels.

What you’ll need:
1 Copper Rod, 125 Strange Dust, 1 Lesser Magic Essence, 1 Silver Rod, 12 Greater Magic Essence, 9 Simple Wood, 25 Lesser Astral Essence, 122 Soul Dust, 1 Golden Rod, 1 Iridescent Pearl, 2 Greater Astral Essence, 194 Vision Dust, 1 Truesilver Rod, 1 Black Pearl, 2 Greater Mystic Essence, 5 Lesser Nether Essence, 125 Dream Dust, 122 Illusion Dust, 1 Arcanite Rod, 1 Golden Pearl, 8 Greater Eternal Essence, 8 Large Brilliant Shard, 1 Fel Iron Rod, 293 Arcane Dust, 14 Greater Planar Essence, 13 Large Prismatic Shard, 20 Lesser Planar Essence, 15 Nightmare Vine, 15 Imbued Vial, 1 Primal Might, 1 Adamantite Rod, 1 Eternium Rod, 1 Titanium Rod, 754 Infinite Dust, 47 Greater Cosmic Essence, 60 Dream Shard, 124 Eternal Earth, 10 Crystallized Water

A quick note here: blacksmiths make all of the rods which you’ll use as an enchanter. If you can find a friendly smith in your guild who can make them for you, you’ll save quite a fair bit of cash because you won’t have to buy them in the Auction House.

First of all you need to learn Apprentice Enchanting, which you can do from any of the trainers in the capital cities of the Old World: Darnassus, Ironforge and Stormwind. If you’re having trouble finding the trainer, just ask a guard. They’ll point out where they are.

Skill level 1-2
1 x [Runed Copper Rod] - 1 Copper Rod, 1 Strange Dust, 1 Lesser Magic Essence
Skill level 2-50
You’ll be able to level to 50 by disenchanting green quality items. If you don’t want to do that, you can also:
48 x [Enchant Bracer - Minor Health] - 48 Strange Dust

Go back to your trainer and learn Journeyman Enchanting.
Skill level 50-90
40 x [Enchant Bracer - Minor Health] - 40 Strange Dust
Skill level 90-100
10 x [Enchant Bracer - Minor Stamina] - 30 Strange Dust
You can keep doing this up to 120 if Strange Dust is much cheaper than Greater Magic Essence.
Skill level 100-101
1 x [Runed Silver Rod] - 1 Silver Rod, 6 Strange Dust, 3 Greater Magic Essence, 1 Runed Copper Rod
Skill level 101-110
9 x [Greater Magic Wand] - 9 Simple Wood, 9 Greater Magic Essence
Skill level 110-135

Next you’ll need two recipes from a vendor. Alliance players need to head to Ashenvale and find Dalria at 35.1, 52.1
From her you need: [Formula: Enchant Bracer - Lesser Strength] and [Formula: Enchant Cloak - Minor Agility]
25 x [Enchant Cloak - Minor Agility] - 25 Lesser Astral Essence

Next it’s back to a capital city (probably Darnassus unless your hearthstone is set somewhere else). Go to the trainer again and learn Expert Enchanting.
Skill level 135-155
20 x [Enchant Bracer - Lesser Stamina] - 40 Soul Dust
Skill level 155-156
1 x [Runed Golden Rod] - 1 Golden Rod, 1 Iridescent Pearl, 2 Greater Astral Essence, 2 Soul Dust, 1 Runed Silver Rod
Skill level 156-185
40 x [Enchant Bracer - Lesser Strength] 80 Soul Dust
Again, there’s a choice here. If you can buy 2 Soul Dust for less than 1 Lesser Mystic Essence, stick to making these until you hit 185. Otherwise at 165 you can switch to:
20 x [Enchant Bracer - Spirit] - 20 Lesser Mystic Essence
Skill level 185-200
15 x [Enchant Bracer - Strength] 15 Vision Dust

At 200, it’s back to a capital city to learn Artisan Enchanting from a trainer.
Skill level 200-201
[Runed Truesilver Rod] 1 Truesilver Rod, 1 Black Pearl, 2 Greater Mystic Essence, 2 Vision Dust, 1 Runed Golden Rod
Skill level 201-220
25 x [Enchant Bracer - Strength] 25 Vision Dust
There’s a choke point here as this enchantment will turn yellow – you’ll need more materials to make sure you can carry on with this to 220.
Skill level 220-229
There’s a choice here – if Lesser Nether Essence is reasonably cheap on the Auction House you can make:
5 x [Enchant Gloves - Agility] - 5 Lesser Nether Essence, 5 Vision Dust
But if it’s pretty dear, stick to making:
5 x [Enchant Cloak - Greater Defense] - 15 Vision Dust
Skill level 230-235
5 x [Enchant Boots - Stamina] - 25 Vision Dust
Skill level 235-240
5 x [Enchant Chest - Superior Health] - 30 Vision Dust
Skill level 240-245
5 x [Enchant Cloak - Greater Defense] - 15 Vision Dust
At this point, you can buy [Formula: Enchant Bracer - Greater Stamina] if it’s available at the Auction House and isn’t ludicrously expensive. It’ll certainly help you level faster although it’s not absolutely necessary. If you can find it, keep going with it all the way to 280. If you can’t get it, here’s the next stage:
Skill level 245-255
10 x [Enchant Boots - Stamina] - 50 Vision dust
Skill level 255-260
5 x [Enchant Chest - Superior Health] - 30 Vision Dust
Skill level 260-265
5 x [Enchant Boots - Greater Stamina] - 25 Dream Dust
Skill level 265-285
20 x [Enchant Shield - Greater Stamina] - 100 Dream Dust

For the next three enchantment recipes, you have to head to Moonglade and find Lorelae Wintersong at 48.3,40,1. You need to buy [Formula: Enchant Cloak - Superior Defense] and [Formula: Runed Arcanite Rod]. After you’ve called in on her, it’s off to Outland where you need to learn Master Enchanting from Johan Barnes at 53.7, 66.1
Skill level 285-290
If small Brilliant Shards are cheap at the Auction House, you can do [Enchant Chest - Major Health]. Otherwise do:
5 x [Enchant Cloak - Superior Defense] - 40 Illusion Dust
Skill level 290-291
1 x [Runed Arcanite Rod] - 1 Arcanite Rod, 1 Golden Pearl, 10 Illusion Dust, 4 Greater Eternal Essence, 1 Runed Truesilver Rod, 2 Large Brilliant Shard
Skill level 291-300
Again, there’s a choice here depending on the price of Small Brilliant Shards. [Enchant Chest - Major Health] is good if they’re pretty cheap. Otherwise it’s on to:
9 x [Enchant Cloak - Superior Defense] - 72 Illusion Dust - Recipe location
Skill level 300-301
1 x [Runed Fel Iron Rod] 1 Fel Iron Rod, 4 Greater Eternal Essence, 6 Large Brilliant Shard, 1 x Runed Arcanite Rod
Skill level 301-310
9 x [Enchant Bracer - Assault] - 54 Arcane Dust
Skill level 310-315
5 x [Enchant Bracer - Brawn] - 30 Arcane Dust
Skill level 315-320
5 x [Enchant Gloves - Assault] - 40 Arcane Dust
Skill level 320-330
13 x [Enchant Bracer - Brawn] - 78 Arcane Dust
Skill level 330-335
5 x [Enchant Gloves - Assault] - 40 Arcane Dust
Skill level 335-340
5 x [Enchant Shield - Resilience] - 5 Large Prismatic Shard, 20 Lesser Planar Essence
Skill level 340-350
15 x [Superior Wizard Oil] - 45 Arcane Dust, 15 Nightmare Vine, 15 Imbued Vial
Unfortunately, this is another enchanting chokepoint: this recipe is yellow at this level, so you may have to make more than 15.
Skill level 350-351
1 x [Runed Adamantite Rod] - 1 Adamantite Rod. 8 Greater Planar Essence, 8 Large Prismatic Shard, 1 Primal Might, 1 Runed Fel Iron Rod

Having raced through Outland’s Enchanting possibilities, jump on a boat to Northrend and learn Enchanting Grand Master from trainers at Valgarde, Valiance Keep or Dalaran.
Skill level 351-360
9 x [Enchant Cloak - Speed] - 54 Infinite Dust
Skill level 360-375
18 x [Enchant Bracers - Striking] - 108 Infinite Dust
Skill level 375-376
1 x [Runed Eternium Rod] - 1 Eternium Rod, 6 Greater Planar Essence, 6 Arcane Dust, 1 Runed Adamantite Rod
Skill level 376-380
6 x [Enchant Bracers - Striking] - 36 Infinite Dust
Skill level 380-385
5 x [Enchant Bracers - Exceptional Intellect] - 50 Infinite Dust
Skill level 385-395
10 x [Enchant Boots - Icewalker] - 80 Infinite Dust, 10 Crystallized Water
Skill level 395-415
23 x [Enchant Cloak - Superior Agility] - 207 Infinite Dust

You’ll notice that the materials for enchantments become a lot more expensive from here on in. Make sure you’re putting them onto an Armor Vellum for sale in the Auction House (if you’re not enchanting people’s armor and weapons for them).

Skill level 415-420
5 x [Enchant Boots - Greater Spirit] - 50 Infinite Dust, 5 Greater Cosmic Essence
Skill level 420-425
5 x [Enchant Shield - Defense] - 30 Infinite Dust, 30 Eternal Earth
Skill level 425-426
1 x [Runed Titanium Rod] - 1 Titanium Rod, 40 Infinite Dust, 12 Greater Cosmic Essence, 8 Dream Shard, 1 Runed Eternium Rod
Skill level 426-430
4 x [Enchant Shield - Defense] - 24 Infinite Dust, 24 Eternal Earth

For the final run, you need to go to Vanessa Sellers, in Dalaran. She’s an enchanting vendor who sells the following for 4 Dream shards each: [Formula: Enchant Gloves - Armsman], [Formula: Enchant Boots - Greater Assault] and [Formula: Enchant Cloak - Mighty Armor]
Skill level 430-435
5 x [Enchant Cloak - Mighty Armor] - 75 Infinite Dust, 10 Greater Cosmic Essence
Skill level 435-445
10 x [Enchant Gloves - Armsman] - 20 Dream Shard, 80 Eternal Earth
Skill level 445-450
5 x [Enchant Boots - Greater Assault] - 20 Dream Shard, 20 Greater Cosmic Essence

And voila! You're a maxed-out enchanter!
